Not all drives or media are recoverableIt is 100% impossible to guarantee anything without first having inspected the media. No company in the world can guarantee anything, nor should they be able to formulate a quote without FIRST evaluating the media in question. Be weary of flat-rate pricing. Usually, the customer ends up paying too much for simple recoveries that are simply caused by a firmware glitch for example. This about this for a moment : How can a company that advertises a low flat-rate price for ANY recovery job deal with a difficult case such as a large 1 ~ 2 TB drive that was dropped? Sometimes these drives require WEEKS (yes---weeks) of imaging to recover. You often only have ONE chance to get your precious data. Surely they will not work for weeks on such a case for the same amount of money that a simple logical firmware problem costs! Our recoveries are handled individually and prices vary from $200 to $2,400 for standard service and is strictly based on the level of difficulty and amount of work involved. Your pricing is too highOur prices range from as low as $200 to as high as $2,400 for our standard service (Emergency/weekend rates are higher). The final price is based ONLY ON THE LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY of your recovery. It does NOT matter how big the hard drive is-ONLY how difficult it is to recover. This is also why we are skeptical and weary of those that offer flat-rate data recovery. Surely these companies are only dealing with the simplest logical types of problems. For example: A drive with a customer brought us a 1 TB drive with a known firmware glitch. He could not get it fixed by the manufacturer because it was an OEM drive. Such a drive reported a size of 0 and was unreadable by any computer or program. We typically recover such a drive for only $200. Had he sent this drive for flat-rate recovery, he would have spent hundreds too much. Likewise, some drives are extremely difficult for any company in the world to recover. Some drives take weeks to fully recover after many parts are replaced. Logically, such drives will cost accordingly more to recover. Why does your price range vary so much? The price range strictly depends on the level of difficulty of your case. It DOES NOT matter the size of your drive, etc. Sometimes, an old 40 GB hard drive may take many days to process, whereas, a much larger, modern drive might take only a few hours. The larger drives do not always take longer to copy out. Each case is unique in it's own right. Some drives require cleanroom expertise, parts replacement (internal and/or external), etc. The more difficult the case, the more costly the recovery. In addition, some clients require EMERGENCY service that requires us to work nights and weekends to recover their data as soon as possible. Of course, we never charge a recovery fee is no data is recovered and we do not charge the quoted emergency rate if we do not recovery your data in the said time. What about partial recovery? What if I only want one file or folder recovered? We realize that MOST Data recovery companies DO NOT offer partial recoveries. This is with very good reason. First, it requires the same amount of work to repair your drive, regardless of the amount of data you require. Parts, labor, etc are the same. Secondly, though you may THINK you only need a particular file or folder, you may realize later (when it is too late) that you were wrong and you will be sorry. For these reasons, we HIGHLY DISCOURAGE our clients from requesting partial recoveries. This is why MOST Data Recovery companies will NOT do partial recoveries. PC Recovery realizes that there is a niche to fill and that this has been a very common request. We have developed a special way to offer and deal with such requests. We DO offer partial recoveries on a "per case" basis. For example, if you are your company's IT person and you are 100% sure that you have all files backed up except for 1 file/folder. You must submit to use in writing that this is the ONLY file/folder that you desire. In this case, we can burn your data to DVD and subtract the media fee from the total recovery price. The difference in price therefore between a partial and full recovery will be negligible (media fee only), and therefore, cannot be recommended if your data is critically important to you. I think that I can fix it myselfThis is NEVER an option IF the data is truly important. Why? Even the most skilled and competent people, who are being mentored and shown how and what to do, will ruin or destroy many hard drives (even of the simplest and oldest types) before finally having any appreciable amount of success. This is mostly due to the complexity and multitude of peculiarities one is faced with from drive family/model to the next. There are few things that different drives share in common with one another. In addition, proper diagnosis of the EXACT fault is the most important step. Many drives are unrecoverable only because someone attempted to fix it themselves. |
